# Wortschatz & Grammatik A1 — Abschnitt K: Adjektive
Seiten 85–86 (Teil 2 Grammatik) · Lösungen S. 113 · Übungen K1–K2
## Overview
- Skill focus: Grammatik (predicative adjectives with sein, comparative/
superlative of gut/viel/gern)
- Topic: describing people/objects with adjective + sein, irregular
comparison forms
- Relates to *Menschen* Lektion(en): **L4** (Der Tisch ist schön —
predicative adjectives with sein; K1 directly reinforces this
pattern). **New beyond Menschen A1.1**: **K2's comparative/superlative
forms of gut, viel, gern are entirely new** — Menschen A1.1 does not
teach comparison (Komparativ/Superlativ) at all, irregular or regular.
## Grammar covered
### K1: Predicative adjectives with sein (reinforces Menschen L4)
Simple pattern: [Subject] + ist/sind + [adjective]. Menschen A1.1's "Der
Tisch ist schön" pattern extended to 10 more subject/adjective pairs.
### K2: Steigerung (comparison) of gut, viel, gern — **new grammar**
These three adjectives/adverbs are irregular in German (like
good/better/best in English) and are **not covered anywhere in Menschen
A1.1**:
| Grundform | Komparativ | Superlativ |
|---|---|---|
| gut (good) | besser | am besten |
| viel (much/a lot) | mehr | am meisten |
| gern (gladly/like to) | lieber | am liebsten |
Pattern: **lieber** = "prefer to" (Ich trinke lieber Tee = I prefer to
drink tea); **am liebsten** = "like most of all" (Am liebsten spiele ich
Tennis = my favorite thing to do is play tennis).
## Exercise summary
1. **K1 Wie ist …?** — build 10 sentences matching a picture to the
correct descriptive adjective.
2. **K2 Rap gefällt mir besser!** — complete 9 dialogues choosing the
correct comparative/superlative form of gut/viel/gern.
## Answer key highlights
- K1: ist verheiratet; ist krank; ist groß; ist klein; ist nett; ist
breit; ist neu; sind teuer; ist schwer; ist leicht (matching the
picture order 1–10; note the adjective pool has 10 items for 10
blanks, one-to-one).
- K2: lieber; besser; lieber/besser; mehr/am meisten; am besten; lieber;
am liebsten; am besten; mehr.
## Notes / gotchas
- **K2 is new grammar** — comparison (Komparativ/Superlativ) isn't part
of Menschen A1.1 at all, so present this as a bonus topic rather than
review. It's genuinely useful vocabulary (gern/lieber/am liebsten is
extremely common in everyday speech) even though it's technically
beyond the curriculum.
- **gern is an adverb, not an adjective** — "Ich spiele gern Tennis" (I
like playing tennis), not describing a noun. Worth distinguishing from
gut/viel, which behave more like typical adjectives.
- **This is the shortest section in the book so far (2 sub-exercises,
2 pages)** — good candidate to pair with a quick review of Section J
or a light practice session rather than a standalone session.
