# Lektion 1 — Hallo! Ich bin Nicole ...

## Overview

- Topic: Begrüssung, Befinden (greetings, wellbeing)
- Communicative goals: Hören/Sprechen — sich begrüßen/verabschieden (greet/say

## Notes / gotchas

- **du vs. Sie** is the first big distinction — pay attention to which form a
  dialogue uses; the workbook explicitly drills recognizing the situation
  (formal photo vs. informal photo) before the grammar.
- **aus** normally takes no article ("aus Deutschland") but **die Schweiz**,
  **die Türkei**, and **der Iran** are exceptions — "aus der Schweiz", "aus
  der Türkei", "aus dem Iran". Worth flagging every time a new country name
  turns up, since this exception list grows through the course.
- Verb endings for this lesson: **-e** (ich), **-st** (du), **-en** (Sie),
  **-t** (er/sie) — sein is irregular (bin/bist/sind/ist) and worth
  memorizing separately.
- Austrian (A) and Swiss (CH) greeting variants are introduced early —
  useful to recognize even though standard German forms are the default to
  produce.
