# Hören & Sprechen A1 — Abschnitt A: Begrüßung, Kontaktaufnahme, Herkunft

### Begrüßung und Verabschiedung (Ü1–2)
Guten Morgen / Guten Tag / Guten Abend / Hallo / Grüß Gott / Servus
(greeting) vs. Auf Wiedersehen / Tschüs (farewell) — same set taught in
Menschen L1, drilled here purely by listening and speaking rather than
reading.

### Wie heißen Sie? / Heißt du...? (Ü3)
Formal (Sie) and informal (du) versions of asking someone's name side
by side: "Wie heißen Sie?" vs. "Heißt du...?" — reinforces Menschen
L1's du/Sie distinction through parallel dialogues rather than a single
register.

### Woher kommen Sie? — country origin + exception articles (Ü4)
"[Name] kommt aus [Land]." Reinforces the same country-article
exception list seen throughout every book so far: **aus der Türkei,
aus der Schweiz, aus den USA** (Pl.) take an article; all other
countries in this exercise (Kolumbien, Japan, Australien, Ägypten,
Belgien, Tansania, Österreich) take none.

### Wie geht es Ihnen? / Wie geht es dir? (Ü7)
Three parallel dialogues drilling the formal (Ihnen) and informal (dir)
versions of "how are you," plus casual variants: "Danke, mir geht's
auch gut," "Also, bei mir ist alles klar!"

## Exercise summary

1. **Übung 1: Lisa und Paul stellen sich vor** — (1a) listen to Lisa
   and Paul introduce themselves, then write your own name in the
   blank; (1b) listen and respond aloud; (1c) listen and write down 10
   greeting words matched to context clues (time of day, farewell cue).
2. **Übung 2: Begrüßen und Verabschieden** — (2a) listen and repeat 11
   greeting/farewell exchanges; (2b) listen and give the same 11
   responses aloud unprompted.
3. **Übung 3: Wie heißen Sie?** — (3a) listen and repeat a formal
   (Sie) name-exchange dialogue; (3b) listen and repeat an informal
   (du) name-exchange dialogue.
4. **Übung 4: Woher kommen Sie?** — (4a) listen to 10 short
   origin-statements; (4b) listen again and mark each richtig/falsch.

   people's names to a fact about each (occupation, age, marital

   full interview and answer 7 multiple-choice questions about Herr
   Meier's origin, residence date, name, wife, children, and hobby.
7. **Übung 7: Wie geht es dir? Wie geht es Ihnen?** — listen and repeat
   3 short dialogues (two formal, one informal) about wellbeing.
8. **Übung 8: Lisa und Paul erzählen von sich** — listen to Lisa and
   Paul make 8 statements about themselves (transport, residence, pets,
   drink preference, sport, vacation style, languages, cinema/theater
   preference) and write the correct either/or answer for each.

Englisch (Deutsch ist ihre Muttersprache, aber sie sprechen beide gut

## Notes / gotchas

- **This book uses recurring characters (Lisa und Paul)** across
  exercises, similar in spirit to Menschen's own storyline characters —
  worth mentioning to the student that these two reappear throughout
  the book (confirmed again in later sections).
- **This is the third time across all three supplementary books** that
  the aus der Türkei / aus der Schweiz / aus den USA exception list
  appears — by now the student has seen it in Wortschatz & Grammatik
  (Abschnitt A, M), Lesen & Schreiben (Abschnitt A), and here. Safe to
  treat as fully memorized at this point.
- **Ü7's "Danke, mir geht's auch gut" and "Also, bei mir ist alles
  klar!" are natural colloquial variants** beyond the textbook-standard
  "Danke, gut" — useful for recognizing casual spoken responses, though
  not necessarily something to require the student to produce
  spontaneously yet.
- **Since this is a listening/speaking book with no external audio
  available**, treat every "Hören Sie" instruction as "read the printed
  transcript aloud to yourself" or have the student read dialogues
  aloud together — the pedagogical intent (listening comprehension) is
  necessarily replaced by reading comprehension + pronunciation practice
  in this context.
