# Hören & Sprechen A1 — Abschnitt E: Familie
Seiten 49–54 · Übungen 22–24 (CD-Tracks 42–47)
Full transcripts and answers are printed in the book's own Lösung
pages, sourced directly below.
## Overview
- Skill focus: Hören & Sprechen (family Q&A dialogues, marital-status
dialogues, self-introduction monologues)
- Topic: children and siblings vocabulary, marital status
(Familienstand), full self-introduction monologues combining name,
age, origin, family, and profession
- Relates to *Menschen* Lektion(en): **L3** (Familie — Ü22 directly
reinforces this lesson's core vocabulary: Kinder, Sohn, Tochter,
Bruder, Schwester, Geschwister, Eltern), **L1** (name/origin
self-introduction — Ü24 combines this with L3's family vocabulary
and L2's profession vocabulary into a full monologue).
## Grammar / Communication patterns covered
### Familienwortschatz (reinforces Menschen L3)
Kinder, Sohn, Tochter, Bruder, Schwester, Geschwister, Eltern, Vater,
Mutter — all reused directly from Menschen L3's vocabulary set, drilled
here in listening/Q&A format rather than reading.
### Familienstand (extends Menschen — new vocabulary set)
ledig, verlobt, verheiratet, geschieden, verwitwet — a fixed 5-word
marital-status set not explicitly taught in Menschen A1.1's numbered
lessons (though "verheiratet" appears in the Lesen & Schreiben book's
Abschnitt A). Fixed phrases: "Ich bin nicht mehr verheiratet, ich bin
geschieden." / "Mein Mann ist leider schon gestorben" (widowed,
euphemistic phrasing).
### Volle Selbstvorstellung (combines L1 + L2 + L3)
A complete self-introduction monologue pattern: Name → Alter →
Familienstand → Herkunft → Beruf → Familie/Wohnort. This is the first
place across all supplementary materials where all these elements are
combined into one continuous monologue rather than drilled separately.
## Exercise summary
1. **Übung 22: Meine Familie** — listen to 7 short Q&A dialogues about
children/siblings and fill in the missing numbers, words, and verb
forms; (22b) listen and repeat the answers.
2. **Übung 23: Familienstand** — listen to 7 short dialogues about
marital status (using all 5 Familienstand words) and fill in the
missing words; (23b) listen and repeat 7 parallel dialogues.
3. **Übung 24: Informationen zur Person** — listen to 3 full
self-introduction monologues (a Greek chef, an Iranian student, a
German mother of two) and fill in the missing words; (24b) listen
and repeat 5 more complete self-introduction monologues.

## Notes / gotchas
- **Familienstand vocabulary (ledig/verlobt/verheiratet/geschieden/
verwitwet) is a genuinely useful, compact 5-word set** not
systematically taught elsewhere — worth memorizing as a fixed group,
since these come up constantly on official forms (matches the
Familienstand field seen on the registration forms in the Lesen &
Schreiben book's Abschnitt A).
- **"Mein Mann ist leider schon gestorben"** is a softened, polite way
to say a spouse died — worth flagging as the natural real-world
phrasing rather than a blunter alternative, since this kind of
euphemistic softening ("leider schon") is a genuine pragmatic skill.
- **Ü24 is the best "put it all together" exercise across every
supplementary book so far** — it combines name/age (L1),
family/marital status (L3), origin (L1/L10), and profession (L2)
into single connected monologues. Excellent model for the student to
imitate when preparing their own self-introduction.
- **This is a short, focused section (3 exercises, 6 pages)** — good
for a single "talking about yourself and your family" practice
session.
