+## Notes / gotchas
+
+- **Do not use the simple past for ordinary conversation here.** At this level, say *Ich habe gearbeitet*, not *Ich arbeitete*.
+- **The participle belongs at the end.** `Ich habe heute Deutsch gelernt.` Not `Ich habe gelernt heute Deutsch.`
+- **Separable prefixes stay attached to the participle in Perfekt:** *Ich habe eingekauft*, not *Ich habe gekauft ein*.
+- **-ieren is the exception to ge-.** *telefoniert* and *fotografiert* never get `ge-`.
+- **Do not generalise haben to all German past events.** This lesson deliberately introduces only **Perfekt mit haben**. Lektion 12 adds the **sein** pattern for movement/change verbs, so an AI tutor should not demand it before then.
+- In temporal phrases, **von ... bis** has both endpoints; **ab** has only a start and continues afterward.
